Black Tie Monte Carlo Holiday Gala at the French Embassy
From the royal majesty of the Palace to the bustling excitement of the casinos, this year kick off the holiday season on foreign soil as we invite you to a very special holiday gala. Partake in the games, enjoy the celebrated holiday and classical ensemble for late night dancing to a DJ, enjoy French food and drinks, savor European holiday chocolate, and donate to a worthy cause with holiday presents for local hospitalized children.
Slip on your gowns and tuxedos for a night of dinner, music, and dancing as you celebrate the season with your fellow young professionals in this truly unique setting!
Your magical evening features:
1. CASINO:
Take to the games and partake in mock gambling with a special Monte Carlo Casino, including Black Jack, Craps, and Texas Hold ‘em Poker (admittedly, a little American touch). (Note: These games are just for fun. There is no real gambling involved. You can neither win nor lose money)
2. EUROPEAN CONCERT AND HOLIDAY MUSIC:
During the first part of the evening, enjoty classical music and holiday tunes by members of a local symphony orchestra.
3. EUROPEAN NIGHTCLUB:
In the second half of the evening, we visit the hottest nightclubs from the south of France to L’Avenue des Champs Elysées as one of Washington’s top DJs spins the best retro, swing and top 40 dance hits. We’ll start with class Swing and Salsa tunes before breaking out into upscale nightclub style high energy retro and modern top 40 dance hits!

Young Professionals Kesher Annual Hanukkah Party
Young Professionals’ Kesher, a D.C. area group for Jewish singles and couples in their 20s and 30s, will hold its annual Hanukkah Party on Saturday December 20, 2008 from 7-11pm at Sixth & I Historic Synagogue in Washington, DC’s Gallery Place/Chinatown district. The second annual No Limit Texas Dreidel Tournament will be held with a $50 gift certificate for the champion. Unwrapped toys will be accepted for donation to Northern Virginia Family Services. Intro to Scuba Diving

Hip Hop/Street Dance Primer Class
Have you been watching dance competition television shows and dance movies? Do you search youtube videos for this underground art form and want more and more? Have you wondered what it would take and whether it was for you? Have you wanted to find out the best way to start and didn’t know how?
Come try this primer class which will introduce you to the various aspects of street dance and hip hop culture. A heavy emphasis on basic isolation, footwork and muscle control is covered in the curriculum. The class will be comprised of warm ups, and strength building dance exercises which help develop the core strength and coordination needed to perform the moves. In addition, students will get the opportunity to learn choreography as a group and practice the move in teams within the class.
Students will get to work up a sweat, dance off all those holiday calories, and have fun working with the dances and choreography learned in this friendly environment.
In addition, an overall appreciation for hip hop culture and its many forms will be gained as students learn about the culture and music within the hip hop community. Students will learn to listen to the music and follow the various beats and rhythms. West Coast, East Coast, Funk, Popular Hip Hop Hits, Old School… are among the flavors of music students will learn to appreciate. Students will be introduced to a physical vocabulary to accompany the listening skills gained from the class. Students will also learn about the cypher culture and where to find it in the DC metropolitan area.
After taking this class, students will be able to more clearly identify the various dance styles that are out there and have a better understanding of the dance culture in general.
