Dining with Dara Schnee

Every Mother’s Day, Dara Schnee starts off with breakfast in bed, put together by her three children, Max, Lucas and Kate. There might be bagels and lox, some Greek yogurt and orange juice, all accompanied by a tray set with flowers and handmade cards from her children.
Then the Schnee family goes off to brunch at her mother’s home. For years, her mother, Lorraine Schapiro, has been making a monkey bread that is a family favorite.
“As far back as I can remember, she would make this ahead of time. The next morning we would come down and the towel [covering it] was two times the size of the pan,” she recalls.
In fact, sometimes Dara Schnee will bake her own because there are never any leftovers for her children to take home.
