Kim Brandwin
Rochelle Eisenberg

Kim Brandwin, an Owings Mills mother of Maddie, 5, and Chloe, 7, loves to cook and entertain. After all, what would you expect from the granddaughter of Sid Mandell, the late owner of the New York-style Sid Mandell’s Deli in Woodmoor.
What’s ironic is that her husband, Marty, originally of St. Louis, also comes from a food pedigree. His uncle owned a deli in St. Louis and his great-grandfather owned the popular Kram Fish Company.
So, what do these two “foodies” do when it comes to preparing Jewish brisket? Although Brandwin admits she loved her grandfather’s brisket (the secret ingredient was Concord grape wine as the liquid), she fell in love with her husband’s grandmother’s version. “She (Joan Kram) uses a spicy red sauce that gives the brisket heat and flavor in a different way. I got hooked.”
Here’s her mother-in-law’s recipe.
