Nikki Herman

Simone Ellin

Pikesville native and current resident Nikki Herman cooks and eats in accordance with the changing seasons.“In the summertime,” says Herman,“I take advantage of fresh produce stands, cook with a lot of vegetables and seasonal fruits, and I love to eat outdoors.”

When it comes to dessert,Herman, not a huge chocolate fan, favors sweets made with fruits, such as her mother’s blueberry pie and her own triple berry pie.

As an oncology nurse at Johns Hopkins Hospital, 32-year-old Herman often works 12-hour days. While in the hospital she tries to eat healthy. “Most days I bring boring lunches like salad, or tuna and a bagel,” she says.“But every six weeks, a group of my work friends and colleagues from Unit 5A at the hospital go out to dinner at a new restaurant. We call ourselves the 5A Foodies. It’s always a fun night of catching up, trying different food and drinks, and a time to de-stress from the busy life of an oncology nurse,” she says.
