Top Award

Warschawski was named Small Firm of the Year by PR News in early October. The award was received at the magazine’s Platinum Awards Ceremony at the New York City Grand Hyatt.

New Hires, Retires

  • Fox Residential Auctions has hired two new employees in recent months. The company welcomed Karen S. Brown as Internet manager in Sept. and Sabrina Mincey as project manager in Oct. Brown is an 11-year IT veteran. Prior to joining FRA, she worked in synagogue administration, research and administration, social work and special education. Mincey was previously a project manager for the software maintenance of the MRT, a nuclear-hardened radio on the Air Force’s B-52. FRA is believed to be the only company in the nation exclusively selling residential real estate for sellers choosing the auction method. In August, the company moved from Owings Mills to larger offices in Pikesville.
  • Kassmir Physical Therapy announced several additions to its staff in the last year. New hires include Laura Reitman, MS, PT; Boris Yurganov, PTA; and Yoni Rosenblatt, DPT.
  • Regional accounting and consulting firm Katz, Abosch, Windesheim, Gershman & Freedman, P.A. (KAWG&F) announced the retirement of Alfred A. Windesheim, CPA, and N. Mark Freedman, CPA, two senior Shareholders with the firm. Effective January 1, 2009, Windesheim and Freedman will be retiring from their active roles as Shareholders with KAWG&F.  They both will continue supporting KAWG&F’s staff and clients in an Of Counsel role with the firm. 
  • The company also announced the hiring of Michael J. Agetstein as chair of the tax department. Agetstein has more than three decades of experience. He previously served as the tax director for Arthur F. Bell Jr. and Associates, LLC.

Awards/Recognitions

  • Lois Elkin, executive vice president of Advance Business Systems, received the Business Person of the Year Award (BPY) from the Baltimore chapter of Delta Sigma Pi at The Johns Hopkins University over the summer. Delta Sigma Pi is a professional fraternity for men and women pursuing careers in business. Advance Business Systems is a document management company.
  • Sanford V. Teplitzky, principal in the Baltimore law firm of Ober Kaler and the chair of the firm’s Health Law Group, received the 2008 American Health Lawyers Association’s David J. Greenburg Service Award. Mr. Teplitzky has been a member of AHLA (and its predecessor, National Health Lawyers Association) for 30 years.
  • Starr Systems Design was named the Contractor of the Year by the Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association (CEDIA) in September. Starr, which offers customs home enhancement systems, was given the Electronic Lifestyles Industry Award.
  • Inc. Magazine, the premier publication for small and medium sized businesses, in August ranked 49er Communications 1370 on its annual ranking of the 5,000 fastest-growing private companies in the country. The list is the most comprehensive look at America’s independent-minded entrepreneurs.49er Communications is a nationwide supplier of two-way radios, mobile radios, base stations, repeaters, accessories, batteries and their service and repairs.
  • Carol G. Cooper, an associate of Adelberg, Rudow, Dorf & Hendler, LLC (ARD&H) was named as the 2008-2009 Family Law Committee Chair for the Bar Association of Baltimore City (BABC) over the summer. Cooper will lead the Committee in its efforts to provide a forum for educating local family law lawyers about the procedures of the Circuit Court for Baltimore City and the current issues in family law. Cooper concentrates her practice in the areas of family law and litigation.

Anniversaries

  • Hertzbach & Company, P.A., celebrated its 60th anniversary over the summer. In lieu of having a party to commemorate the occasion, the company announced it August that it would make a substantial donation to the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults, a leading voice in the young adult cancer movement.

Merger

  • Gorfine, Schiller & Gardyn, P.A. of Owings Mills, the 15th largest certified public accounting firm in Maryland, announced its merger with Grabush, Newman and Co., P.A. in July. Grabush, Newman and Co. will take on the GSG name, and the company’s professional staff, including Barry B. Bondroffand Joseph A. Liberman, who will serve as directors.
