Port Discovery Children’s Museum will host The Wizard of Oz Children’s Educational Exhibition from Jan. 26 to Sept. 15 in celebration of the film’s 70th anniversary milestone. The Wizard of Oz Children’s Educational Exhibition can only be found Port Discovery Children’s Museum, located at 35 Market Place in Baltimore. The Laurel Museum, located at at 817 Main St. in Laurel, will host Stationed in Laurel: Our Civil War Story Exhibit from Feb. 3 to Dec. 22. The exhibit examines how the Civil War impacted the town. Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s Music Box Series: Life in the Water will take place at 11:30 a.m. June 15 at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, located at 1212 Cathedral Street in Baltimore.
The Music Box Series is a new concert series for the very young, aimed at babies 6 months to three years, and their families. Concerts will be highly interactive and engaging, creating a musical and movement experience and encouraging musical, motor and language development. The 36th annual Baltimore Farmers’ Market & Bazaar returns each Sunday from April 7 through Dec. 22 from 7 a.m. (approximately noon).  Sundays at the market offer a unique shopping experience for visitors by transforming under the Jones Falls Expressway into a one stop shop for fresh foods and crafts.  This year’s season brings the same great produce, meats, dairy, spices, preserves, fresh baked breads and flowers, in addition to delectable multicultural foods and handcrafted art from local artisans.  The Welcome Center and SNAP and debit card services return for the season as well.  The Baltimore Farmers’ Market & Bazaar is located on Saratoga Street between Holliday and Gay streets, underneath the Jones Falls Expressway (JFX).  Farmers, food vendors and craftspeople from the region can apply to participate in the Baltimore Farmers’ Market & Bazaar.  Applications for the 2013 market season are now online at promotionandarts.org; click on the “Events & Festivals” link.  The market takes place rain or shine. Columbia Festival of the Arts’  2013 season will kick-off with LakeFest, a free, three-day celebration of the arts, scheduled for June 14-16, along Lake Kittamaqundi’s lakefront in Columbia, MD.
Squonk Opera GO Roadshow will bring its unique and colorful musical experience to Columbia with multiple performances throughout LakeFest 2013. With a variety of musical performances on the main stage all weekend, Son Tropical of The United States Army Field Band will close LakeFest on Sunday evening with a snazzy repertoire of Afro-Cuban and Latin music. Along with musical performances there will be free, fun activities, including street performers, art exhibitions, a sidewalk chalk art competition, kids’ arts and crafts, assorted food offerings, wine tastings by Maryland Wineries, and a micro brew zone. In addition, LakeFest features ArtPark, a juried, invitational show where 60 artisans exhibit and sell their original artwork representing a breadth of media including functional and wearable art.
LakeFest is free to the public and will run from 5 to 11 p.m. June 14, noon to 11 p.m. june 15 and , noon - 7 p.m. June 17.

Join your neighbors for a day of community giving in the Cheswolde, Cross Country, Fallstaff, Glen and Mt. Washington neighborhoods from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 21 as part of CHAI Good Neighbor Day. . Families can work together on self-selected projects to help seniors and adults with disabilities prepare their homes for summer. Opening on May 10, Fells Point Corner Theater will be presenting David Mamet’s scalding comedy Glengarry Glen Ross. The play runs through June 9 at 251 South Ann Street in Baltimore. Experience, experiment, and explore the science of how we can save Earth’s ecosystems at the Maryland Science Center’s new travelling exhibit, Wildlife Rescue, opening May 11. The exhibit will be on display until Labor Day.
Visitors to the exhibit will be introduced to the rescue efforts of people who dedicate their lives to the health of our planet’s habitats. Wildlife Rescue lets young rescuers experiment with puppets, costumes and the techniques used to teach animals survival skills, which often results in groups of animals or entire species being saved. In the exhibit, interactive activities such as crawling through a turtle culvert, comparing one’s weight to a panda’s and simulating flying with a Whooping Crane and feeding a baby California Condor give visitors a look at the important task of preserving Earth’s wildlife. Wildlife Rescue admission and activities are free with paid admission to the Maryland Science Center. The Maryland Science Center is located at 601 Light Street at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. BoardWalk Beat is a new, family-friendly, nightly 3D light and sound show that will debut on the famed Atlantic City Boardwalk on Saturday, May 25 at 9 p.m. “Boardwalk Beat” takes a foot-tapping, heart-thumping journey through eight decades of musical history including ‘20s Rag Time, ‘30s Cotton Club, ‘40s Broadway Musicals, ‘60s Surf Music, ‘70s Disco, ‘80s Pop and ‘90s Hard Rock. Historic Boardwalk Hall is magically transformed into a gigantic whimsical jukebox hopping randomly from one musical era to another.
The show is free and open to the public, and no tickets are required. It is shown nightly every half hour from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. on weekends and from 9:30 p.m. until midnight midweek throughout the summer. BB&T Bank Presents “Brew at the Zoo,” the annual outdoor festival at The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore Mat the Waterfowl Lake Pavilion,May 25 to 26 from 1 to 7 p.m. each day. This fun, family-friendly event provides guests with the opportunity for unlimited sampling of a diverse assortment of local and national beers and wines, while absorbing some local live music. The band line-up this year features six bands, with all Mighty Senators headlining on Saturday, and the Kelly Bell Band closing out the event on Sunday, appearing for their 6th year in a row.  In addition to live music and cold brew, there will a fun-filled Kids’ Zone, visits from the Zoo’s animal ambassadors and of course the opportunity to tour the Zoo and visit with all your favorite (party) animals. Opening May 25, the newest travelling exhibit, Sherlock Holmes and the Clocktower Mystery, will transport visitors back in time to Victorian London to solve this baffling thriller with the help of none other than the pipe-touting, hunting cap-wearing detective himself: the infamous Sherlock Holmes.

To get to the bottom of this “whodunit,” visitors’ deductive reasoning will be tested as they move through the eight “chapters” of the exhibit, aided by written guides complete with a map and space for recording clues and suspects. Visitors will learn the important process of thorough research based on logic as they work with physical evidence riddled throughout the exhibit – eventually leading to a dramatic finale.

Sherlock Holmes and the Clocktower Mystery admission and activities are free with paid admission to the Maryland Science Center. Jewish Federation of Howard County will celebrate Howard County’s modern family at its annual fundraising gala, “Federation Live!” with speaker Jeffrey Richman, Executive Producer of Modern Family, an ABC comedy. The gala will take place at 6 p.m. June 9 and will be held at Ten Oaks Ballroom, located at 5000 Signal Bell Lane in Clarksville.  This year’s honoree, Jean Friedberg, is a dedicated Jewish community leader. The American Red Cross 10th Annual Invitational Golf Tournament will be held on June 12 at the Golf Club at Lansdowne,44050 Woodridge Parkway, Lansdowne, VA 20176. The Columbia Center for Theatrical Arts Summer Break Drama Mini-Camp runs from June 17-21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. John’s Parish Day School, located at 9120 Frederick Road in Ellicott City. Solstice, the Maryland Science Center’s fundraising gala, marks its 36th year of science celebration on Saturday, June 22, 2013 from 8 p.m. to Midnight. The annual fundraising event will be decked out this year with a moveable feast, an always popular signature drink, live music and an evening of dancing.
All proceeds from Solstice support the Science Center’s long-standing policy of offering Maryland school groups free admission when visiting on field trips. Tickets for Solstice 2013 are $105 for members, $125 for non-members. Cocktail party attire is suggested—jackets encouraged, ties optional, and of course, dresses that impress. Pioneer Camp, Secret and Spies
For those young scientists age 8-10, the National Electronics Museum, located at 1745 W. Nursery Rd. in Linthicum, is once again offering its summer Pioneer Camp.  This two-day camp will focus on the theme of Secrets and Spies. Campers will have the opportunity to explore the engineering and science behind becoming a secret agent.  Due to the popularity of Pioneer Camp, there are now two opportunities for campers to participate.  The first session is July 18-19, with another session being offered Aug. 15-16.  Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day, costs $40 per camper and advanced registration is required.
