Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein
Gone Too Soon
August 31, 2009
It still seems hard to believe. Not even quite a year since miraculously surviving a plane crash that claimed four other lives, Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein was found dead last Friday afternoon, Aug. 28, in his Manhattan apartment. He was 36.
A police source told People magazine that the Philly-born celebrity club deejay sent a text message to two friends at 1 a.m. that Friday about a scheduled Vegas gig at the Rain Nightclub in the Palms Hotel. Needless to say, he never made it.
When Mr. Goldstein failed to answer his cell phone about 16 hours later, a friend called 911. The NYPD broke down his apartment door and, according to the police source, found him lifeless in bed, with a crack pipe nearby. They also discovered a half bag of crack and prescription drugs.
Mr. Goldstein, who claimed he’d been off drugs for more than 11 years, recently promoted his upcoming MTV reality show, “Gone Too Far,” about helping drug users. “There’s no better way to remember what it was like when I was at my bottom than to see someone at their bottom,” he told the Associated Press.
Travis Barker of the band Blink-182, who survived last September’s plane crash with Mr. Goldstein in South Carolina, tweeted about the death of his friend, “I’ll never forget everything we’ve been thru and every time i play the drums i’ll think of you. U were an amazing friend/DJ/human being.”
