Adam Lambert
Our `Idol’?
April 24, 2009
A video recently began circulating on the Internet showing Adam Lambert, one of the leading lights of this year’s “American Idol” crop, performing “Shir Lashalom” (“Song Of Peace”)—in fairly impeccable Hebrew—at a 2005 tribute concert to slain Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.
Mr. Lambert sang the peace anthem – which Rabin himself sang shortly before being assassinated in November 1995—with Israeli-American singers Maya Haddi and Noa Dori.
Is Adam – he of Scottish surname, jet-black hair, red nail polish, “guyliner” and absolutely amazing pipes (check out his unique renditions of “Ring Of Fire” and “Satisfaction”)—a member of the tribe?
The jury still seems to be out about that, even though Mr. Lambert reportedly also performed a few years ago at a Chabad event, singing a tune called “Is Anybody Listening?” At that time, the theatrical Mr. Lambert was playing Joshua in the new musical, “The Ten Commandments,” at the Kodak Theater.
In addition, Sharon Farber, an Israeli-born musical director who arranged the Rabin tribute performance, posted on the Israeli publication Maariv’s Web site that Mr. Lambert is indeed Jewish.
Well, either way, he’s a heckuva performer and sings with a pretty good Hebrew pronunciation.
