Alexis Cohen
Somebody To Love
July 27, 2009Idols come, idols go (Taylor who?!) But no one will ever forget Alexis Cohen. The 25-year-old “American Idol” 2007/2008 cast-off, who was struck and killed last weekend by a hit-and-run driver, will always be remembered for her raucous, profane and utterly hysterical manner in telling off judge Simon Cowell. (Not to mention her less-than-sterling rendition of Jefferson Airplane’s “Somebody To Love.”)
The contentious Ms. Cohen – who lived in Allentown, Pa., with her mom, Mindy, and their two cats – became a bit of an Internet sensation two years ago after flipping Simon the bird and screaming obscenities at him on multiple occasions. At times, she seemed like a woman possessed, and one blogger made fun of Alexis’s “Jewish raspy voice.”
But she sure did entertain. She reminded us of the awkward, quirky kid in school who tried so hard to be part of the cool scene, but simply decided to always be who she was. We’ll miss her.
