While ardent fans of “The Office” wonder extensively about life after Michael Scott (Steve Carell) and if Dwight (Rainn Wilson) will become the boss, word has it that B.J. Novak is moving up in the Dunder Mifflin realm.
According to Variety, Mr. Novak, 30, has not only re-signed to play Ryan Howard (formerly known as “The Temp”) for two more years but he will be promoted to be the show’s executive producer.
Like Mindy Kaling, who plays Kelly Kapoor, and Paul Lieberstein, who plays Toby Flenderson, Mr. Novak is a jack-of-all-trades on “The Office” – actor, writer, director, producer.
The rise of Mr. Novak—the son of William Novak, co-editor of the seminal “The Big Book of Jewish Humor”—likely means more screen time for Ryan, who as of late has been reduced to just occasional odd scenes with Kelly (and inexplicably looking pretty nerdy).
Only time will tell if Ryan will wind up with Kelly for good, or possibly even return to the DM corporate office, where he scaled the heights of power only to fall victim to the tawdry taste of temptation.
