The Sri Lankan-Brit rapper M.I.A. (aka Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam) refuses to marry someone just to get a green card, even if the guy is heir to the Bronfman liquor dynasty and the father of her child.
Seems that M.I.A., 35, who has had visa problems in the past, wants a traditional wedding, not a quickie.
“That’s what they want me to do, but I’m not going to lose my integrity for that [expletive],” she said. “I actually want a nice wedding. I’m not going to blow that. If they’re gonna kick me out, it’s going to be a fight. It’s an important fight to have.”
M.I.A., who recently came out with the CD “Maya,” is engaged to Benjamin Zachary Bronfman, the son of Edgar Bronfman Jr., CEO of the Warner Music Group and a member of the Seagram booze empire.
Benjamin, whose mom is actress Sherri Brewer (“Shaft”), also goes by the name of Benjamin Brewer and is the ex-singer and guitarist for the band The Exit. He and M.I.A. have a 17-month-old son named Ikhyd Edgar Arular Bronfman.
To recap, M.I.A. won’t lower herself to get a quickie wedding to remain in this country because she wants a traditional wedding to a man with whom she already has a baby.
Makes a ton of sense, right?
