Some like it hot—and obviously among them is the U.S. Postal Service. The folks who go postal have announced they will honor legendary Hollywood director Billy Wilder with a postage stamp in 2012.
Wilder will be part of the postal service’s “Great Film Directors” commemorative set. John Ford, Frank Capra and John Huston also are depicted in the series.
Besides Wilder’s countenance, the stamp will feature a classic scene from Wilder’s Oscar-winning 1959 film, “Some Like It Hot,” starring Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis.
Wilder, who was born Samuel Wilder in Austria-Hungary (now Poland) and came to H-wood in the early ‘30s, died in 2002 at age 95. Some of his other great flicks include “The Lost Weekend” (1945), “Sunset Boulevard” (1950), “Stalag 17? (1953) and “The Apartment” (1960).
Not too shabby.
