Chester French is being touted as the next big thing in pop music. Rolling Stone placed the two-man band – consisting of lead singer DA Wallach and multi-instrumentalist Maxwell Drummey – on its “Artists To Watch” list in 2008.
Chester French’s official debut album, “Love The Future,” came out last month on the band’s Web site (chesterfrench.com). “We’re doing something that’s never been done by a band before,” says Mr. Wallach. “It’s great because when you put out free music, people can spread it around as much as they want. And right now, as we’re just trying to expose ourselves to more people, every new supporter helps.”
Mr. Wallach and Mr. Drummey met at Harvard in the fall of ‘03, and named their band after sculptor Daniel Chester French. (These are brainy fellas!) Meanwhile, “Entourage” has already played their infectious single “She Loves Everybody” on an episode.
“Right now, we’re on the first tour bus we’ve ever had,” says Mr. Wallach. “We were driving around in a van for the past year-and-a-half, and it’s a real luxury now to be able to sleep while we’re driving.”
So what’s Chester French’s secret to its meteoric success? “I’m from Milwaukee, he’s from Boston,” Mr. Wallach said. “They’re both very diverse cities, and we grew up with friends and all different kinds of music around us. So the records we make are inspired by a lot of different places.”
