In his 1993 hit “Mr. Jones,” Counting Crows front man (and Bawlmer native) Adam Duritz sings, “I wanna be Bob Dylan.” Hey, Adam, don’t we all?
But sorry, there’s only one Dylan. And the crusty old man formerly known as Robert Allen Zimmerman is now being saluted with a new four-CD, 75-song tribute album titled “Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan: Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International.” The release is part of anniversary efforts for the human rights organization.
Participating artists include Adele, Elvis Costello, Pete Townshend, Patti Smith, Miley Cyrus, Joan Baez, Pete Seeger, Ke$ha, Sting and the Dave Matthews Band. (Uh, yes, you read that right, Patti Smith and Pete Seeger mentioned in the same breath as Miley Cyrus and Ke$ha. Of course, no where to be seen on the CD is that talentless Nick Jonas, who had the audacity to diss Zimmy on a late night TV talk show a few years ago.)
The album, which also features a handful of previously unreleased Dylan recordings, is slated for release next month.
