Oscar-nominated Colin Firth (“A Single Man”) and his fellow Brit actor Matthew Macfadyen (“Frost/Nixon”) will star in the upcoming film “The Promised Land,” according to the movie’s backers.
The film, which is due to star shooting in late summer, is billed as a political crime thriller set in British-ruled Palestine at the end of World War II, covering the period leading to the establishment of Israel.
The film will also star Jim Sturgess (“Across The Universe”) and will be directed by Michael Winterbottom (“Welcome To Sarajevo”).
Mr. Firth, 49, has been cast as Avraham Stern, leader of the underground organization Lehi, also known as the Stern Gang. Mr. Sturgess and Mr. Macfadyen will play British police officers trying to quell Jewish militant activity.
