Eli Roth
Master Of Disaster
April 24, 2009
“Splat Pack” filmmaker Eli Roth, best known for his grisly “Cabin Fever” and “Hostel” films, is now working on his first big budget movie.
“I don’t want to give away the title yet, because I have to make sure I own it 100 percent, but it’s going to be something that is really fun, with lots of mass destruction,” he said. “I wanted to do something along the lines of ‘Transformers’ or ‘Cloverfield’ that was a little more science fiction-based, and with lots of chaos and mass destruction.”
And who are the perpetrators of all this chaos and mass destruction? “Once it gets set up, I will let everyone know,” he said. “It is not aliens or robots or a virus—it’s a little more grounded. But when people hear it, they are going to be like, ‘That is going to be insane!’”
Already sounds a bit insane. After he’s done with this blockbuster, the bloodthirsty Mr. Roth, 37, said he’ll return to his roots with “the sickest, bloodiest, most violent slasher movie. I want to make the highest body count slasher film I can.”
Meanwhile, he’s also making his major acting film debut in Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming “Inglourious Basterds,” and planning to shoot a low-budget, full-length version of his trailer from 2007’s “Grindhouse.”
That a lot of carnage and bloodletting for a nice Jewish boy from Boston.
