Ethan Zohn
Up For A Race
August 14, 2009
Ethan Zohn continues to be a profile in courage. The 35-year-old winner of “Survivor: Africa”—who was diagnosed last April with Stage 2 Hodgkin’s disease and is coming off three months of intense chemotherapy – is now gearing up for the New York City Marathon in November.
In a recent video diary entry for People.com, Ethan, a native of Lexington, Mass., said he plans to run the 26-mile marathon to support his HIV/AIDS charity, Grassroot Soccer.
But because his chemotherapy regimen left him nauseous and frequently sleepless, he said he’s still not sure if he’ll be up for it. Still, Ethan vows to remain positive throughout his battle against the disease.
He’s still waiting for test results to see if he’s well enough for the marathon, which winds through all of New York’s five boroughs. But just being there at practices, to cheer on his team, “gets me excited, gets me pumped up that I might actually be able to run this marathon,” he said.
Go, Ethan, go.
