Krusty The Clown has found true love, and yes, we’re very happy for him. But couldn’t he have found a nice Jewish girl?
In a recent episode of “The Simpsons,” Krusty—born Herschel Shmoikel Pinchas Yerucham Krustofski, and voiced by Dan Castellaneta—falls in love with his new TV sidekick, Princess Penelope, voiced by Anne Hathaway.
But their wedding plans draw the ire of Krusty’s dad, Rabbi Hyman Krustofski, who refuses to perform the ceremony. “Friends, loved ones,” says the rabbi, voiced by Jackie Mason, “we are gathered here today to marry a Jew and … a Congregationalist? Is that even a thing?”
The ceremony is called off, only for Krusty to follow Penelope to Paris for an emotional reunion. She reveals her affinity for Krusty’s Jewish roots, dubbing him her “Borscht Belt baby” in the episode’s closing segment.
As they float down the Seine, Krusty explains, “I’d rather be a happy schnook than a noble schlumpf.”
Words to live by.
