James Franco
Pomp & Circumstances
June 12, 2009
He certainly had no problem grabbing the udders of a fake bovine and celebrating a faux bar mitzvah last February at Harvard for the Hasty Pudding Man of the Year honors. But James Franco recently begged off on delivering a commencement speech at his alma mater, UCLA.
The handsome Mr. Franco said he’s just too darned busy right now with his flourishing film career. Mr. Franco is slated to star in “Your Highness” with Natalie Portman, which is scheduled for a 2011 release. (Who can blame him for not wanting to be pulled away from the adorable Natalie?)
“I deeply regret not being able to keep my commitment to giving the commencement speech at UCLA’s graduation this year,” said Mr. Franco, 31, who starred in “Milk” and “Pineapple Express. “Unfortunately, the date conflicts with me needing to be on location to begin pre-production on my next film. I wish everyone in the 2009 class the best of luck in all of their future endeavors.”
Mr. Franco attended UCLA as an English major in 1996, but quit after a year to try his hand at acting. He eventually returned and earned a bachelor’s degree in creative writing in 2008.
