Jason Segel
We Love You, Man
March 27, 2009
Jason Segel describes himself as “painfully single,” though he’s been romantically linked in the media to such lovely ladies as Rashida Jones, Drew Barrymore and Evan Rachel Wood.
Of course, he says he’s only pals with those gals. But that doesn’t mean the gangly Mr. Segel, who stars with Paul Rudd in the new flick “I Love You, Man,” doesn’t enjoy the prospects of a good date.
“I’m more like Paul’s character in the movie,” he said, “in that [relationships] with women were always very important to me. I like the company of women very, very much.”
Mr. Segel, 29, who stars in the hit TV show “How I Met Your Mother, also likes the company of filmmaker Judd Apatow, who cast him in “ILY,M,” as well as in “Knocked Up,” “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” and way back on the TV series “Freaks And Geeks.”
“I only get to do one movie a year because of the TV show, and I really wanted to play a guy who was much different. In `I Love You, Man,’ the guy’s got a swagger to him. He’s a womanizer who’s very comfortable in his skin,” Mr. Segel said.
In the film, Mr. Rudd plays a real estate agent who, after getting engaged to his girlfriend (Ms. Jones), discovers he has no one to be his best man. He eventually hooks up with Sydney Fife (Mr. Segel), who suffers from Peter Pan syndrome. As you can imagine, the hijinks are endless.
Meanwhile, speaking of the fetching Rashida, catch her on the new NBC comedy series, “Parks and Recreation.” “P&R,” which is set to debut next Thursday night, April 9, allows Ms. Jones and co-star Amy Poehler work on their improvisational skills, she said. Ms. Jones plays Ann Logan, a nurse with the goal of transforming a construction site into a park.
“With every day I get to do improv, especially working with people who are pros at it, the more I feel comfortable,” she said. “They elevate me, and that gives me more confidence in my abilities.”
Being the daughter of music genius Quincy Jones and “Mod Squad” beauty Peggy Lipton, you’d think confidence would be the last thing she needs. It’s all in the genes, Rash.
