There’s a lot of buzz going around these days for the stylish remake of “Arthur,” starring Brit comic Russell Brand. Much of the credit is going to the new film’s Pikesville-raised director, Jason Winer, an alum of Friends School.
Jason, 38, was the executive producer and lead director of “Modern Family” during that TV comedy’s first incredible season. “Arthur” is his debut as a film director. For his work on “Modern Family,” Jason received an Emmy nomination and a Directors Guild Award.
Winer tells Associated Press that the update of the 1981 Dudley Moore gem “combines bawdy humor with genuine emotion,” much like “Modern Family” itself. The film co-stars Helen Mirren, Jennifer Garner, Evander Holyfield and Nick Nolte.
In the future, Jason says he plans “to bounce back and forth between features and television … sort of the way JJ Abrams has.”
