Jennifer Grey
Salute To Swayze
September 21, 2009
Among the many celebrities who paid tribute to Patrick Swayze, who died yesterday at age 57 after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer, was Jennifer Grey, his co-star from the 1987 blockbuster, “Dirty Dancing.” The two of them made an unforgettable duo as Frances “Baby” Houseman and Johnny Castle in that romantic, coming-of-age drama, a low-budget affair that earned millions and millions.
“Patrick was a rare and beautiful combination of raw masculinity and amazing grace,” said Ms. Grey, daughter of Oscar-winner Joel Grey and granddaughter of the late Jewish comedian/musician Mickey Katz. “My heart goes out to his wife and childhood sweetheart, Lisa Niemi, to his mom, Patsy, and to the rest of their family.
“When I think of him,” said Ms. Grey, now 49, “I think of being in his arms when we were kids, dancing, practicing the lift in the freezing lake, having a blast doing this tiny little movie we thought no one would ever see.”
