Director/screenwriter Judd Apatow was honored recently by the Writers Guild of America for his body of work, with “SNL’s” Kristin Wiig presenting him with the Herb Sargent Award for Comedy Excellence. Not too shabby, Juddster.
Meanwhile, Apatow, 44, is far from resting on his laurels. He’s working on “This Is 40,” his spin-off to his 2007 hit “Knocked Up.”
“I started thinking about writing a movie about a family and their midlife crisis, and then I realized I already have that family in one of my movies and I like them. Why do I have to meet new actors? I can use these amazing actors that people seem to like and were interested in learning more about and it came out really well,” Apatow said.
Among the familiar actors in “This Is 40” will be Paul Rudd, Jason Segel and Leslie Mann, who happens to be Aptow’s wife.
“This Is 40? takes place a few years from where “Knocked Up” left off and follows the lives of Rudd and Mann as they struggle with their jobs and marriage. It’s due out in December.
