The $65 million Broadway mega-production “Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark” will have to now carry on without its Tony Award-winning producer, Julie Taymor. Producers told the crew yesterday that she has “stepped down.”
“Taymor is out. She’s left the building,” a source told The Daily News.
It is unclear who will step in for Taymor, 58, but Christopher Ashley and Philip McKinley have been rumored to replace her. The technically-challenging “Spider-Man” has cost twice as much as any Broadway show in history. The show’s aerial stunts have already resulted in four cast injuries, and Taymor was roundly criticized for the show’s on-set injuries.
For now, the show will likely be delayed again, possibly to June 2011.
