Mick Jones, former guitarist for the seminal band The Clash, has reunited with the original members of Big Audio Dynamite, the groundbreaking group he formed in ’84 after his old band kicked him out. BAD recently performed at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire, drawing raves.
Jones, 55, tells CNN that his guitar playing now is far superior to his days with The Clash and BAD, the latter of which some music critics say were just as pioneering as The Clash, with their fusion of punk and hip-hop.
BAD, which disbanded in ’90, is currently touring the U.S., including this month’s Coachella Festival in Indio, Calif. They will probably record soon, Mick says.
“We’ve all been quite busy, but it seemed like the right thing to do,” Jones says of the “re-formation.” “I brought something new to it. It’s called age. The songs have a new life, I play and sing better, I understand the music better, and that has given us a context to proceed from.”
