Natalie Portman
That’s Smart!
August 14, 2009
Chances are that Natalie Portman, who started acting and dancing as a child, has always been an overachiever. Now, the Golden Globe-winning/Academy Award-nominated actress and Harvard graduate is making a film about overachievers. How fitting.
The Jerusalem-born Ms. Portman, 28, will produce “Booksmart,” a high school comedy for Fox, according to Variety. “Booksmart” chronicles the lives and times of a pair of female academic overachievers who have managed to do everything they’ve set out to do in high school except for one thing – get boyfriends. (We seriously doubt Natalie’s ever had any problem in that department.) Now, the gals are freakin’ because – guess what! – the prom is coming up. (Sounds pretty madcap to us.)
Ms. Portman is producing the movie with her partner, Annette Savitch, under their Handsomecharlie Films. Meanwhile, Nat was recently cast as Jane Foster, the female lead in “Thor,” a film adaptation of the classic comic book.
The film is being directed by Kenneth Branagh and slated to come out in 2011.
