What’s Neve Campbell up to these days? The former “Party Of Five” star, now 37, tells health.com that she’s come a long way since playing the hyper-sensitive teenager Julia Salinger on the ‘90s hit TV show that made her a star. She’ll soon be coming out with “Scream 4,” one of the year’s most eagerly anticipated flicks.
“I’m less worried [now] about what other people think,” Neve says. “What a relief! I saw a therapist once, and one thing she said to me was, `Neve, put yourself in a state where you lose all your money and nobody cares what you’re doing. Are you OK?’ And I said, `I’m absolutely OK. Because I still have me.’”
What does the ever-thin Neve have to say about Hollywood’s obsession with weight? “When I did `Party of Five,’ there was a stage I went through where I gained weight,” she says. “I had stopped dancing eight hours a day, and suddenly I was working 15 hours a day and sitting in a trailer. And there were mean comments in the press about my weight. Being on camera, there’s definitely a standard that is expected. But I’ve never been one to starve myself. I watched too many of my dancer friends throwing up. They’d end up really sick, or in the hospital, or not being able to have children. And I won’t do that to myself. Maybe I’m not a stick, but I’m really healthy and happy, and I think I look good.”
So what makes Neve happy? “Trying to do good in the world,” she says. “I’ve been working with this orphanage in South Africa called Botshabelo, which is so inspiring.”
