Even at 61, Olivia Newton-John is still so darned cute. But does the English-born, Australian-raised singer/actress have a less appealing side to her public persona?
For her guest appearance this week on the hit TV musical comedy “Glee,” Ms. Newton-John said she showed off “the dark side of myself. I’m not terribly nice. It’s a mixture of mean and diva. I don’t believe I have this side, but it’s amazing how easy it came out!”
Ms. Newton-John—whose grandfather was the late German-born physicist/mathematican Max Born—played herself on “Glee.” Seems the “Grease” star wasn’t so tickled by Sue Sylvester’s online video remake of her iconic “Physical” video.
“It was really fun to see the set. They redid it exactly the way it was in the original video!” said Ms. Newton-John, who worked closely with Jane Lynch, who plays the evil Sue. “Just the experience of being dressed up in exercise gear and dancing and singing with Jane was funny. I’ve never laughed so hard. My jaw was sore by the time I left.”
So was Olivia a “Gleek” growing up in Melbourne? “I was part of the drama club,” she said, “but I avoided choir because they always wanted me to do solos so I tried to get out of it. I was shy.”
