Ricki Lake
Right On, Ricki

Healing. That’s not a word you hear very often when moms try to describe the inexplicable miracle of childbirth. But that’s exactly what it was like for
Ricki Lake, largely because of the actress/former talk show host’s turbulent childhood.
“I was sexually abused [around] age 6 or 7,” she recently told People. By having children, “I was able to look at my body and see what it was able to do and embrace it. Sort of let go of all the body image issues.”
The 40-year-old Ms. Lake, who recently came out with “Your Best Birth,” a book for expectant mothers, has two children, Milo, 12, and Owen, 7. “There’s a potential healing process that can take place for women, if they’re just in touch with it,” she said.
Meanwhile, the formerly zaftig Ms. Lake is keeping her weight down, to around 140 pounds. She credits it all to diligent exercise and careful eating.
“I eat everything I want to eat,” she said. “I just don’t eat all of it.”
Meanwhile, Ms. Lake is now busy working on a follow-up to her 2008 childbirth/midwifery documentary “The Business Of Being Born,” which will feature interviews with Cindy Crawford, Laila Ali and Christy Turlington. “We call them birth goddesses,” Ms. Lake said.
