Sacha Baron Cohen
Of Homeric Proportions
September 22, 2009
Will Homer daven at the Wall? Can Bart make the cut with the IDF? How will Marge’s beehive handle the Middle East heat?
These questions and others will be answered when “The Simpsons” go to Israel next year. Everyone’s favorite animation TV series will air an episode on March 28, 2010, with Homer & Co. visiting the Jewish state.
In fact, the plump, oval-headed patriarch reportedly comes down with a bad case of “Jerusalem Syndrome,” the psychological malady in which a person convinces himself that he is the messiah.
Joining the gang will be Sacha Baron Cohen, who plays a hostile Israeli tour guide encountered by the family.
“He’s trying to get Marge to give him good grades on the comment card, and she goes, `You people are pushy,’ and he goes, `What do you mean, you people? You try having Syria for a neighbor! What do you have—Canada?’” “Simpsons” producer Al Jean told Entertainment Weekly.
Cleverly titled “The Greatest Story Ever D’ohed,” the episode is scheduled to coincide with Palm Sunday. “It’ll be a show that all faiths can come together and be offended by,” Mr. Jean said.
No word yet if Krusty The Clown will make an appearance.
