Some folks are so sensitive.
A Bethlehem grocer recently filed suit against English comedian Sasha Baron Cohen for $115 million in libel damages over his film “Bruno.” Ayman Abu Aita, a Palestinian, said Mr. Cohen’s depiction of him as a Lebanese terrorist in “Bruno” has ruined his life. (Anyone who saw the film might make the same claim.)
Mr. Abu Aitas also filed suit against NBC, Universal Studios and David Letterman for being part of the film which tricked him into meeting Mr. Cohen under the false pretext that the actor was a German producing a film about the Palestinian cause. Mr. Abu Aita said he has received several death threats since the film came out.
In “Bruno,” Mr. Cohen plays a gay Austrian who wants to regain world acclaim by trying to solve the Middle East crisis. During the scene, Mr. Abu Aita was depicted as a leader of the Al-Aqsa Brigades.
In July, Mr. Letterman tried to discover the identity of the man depicted as the terrorist and traced Mr. Abu Aita down through a CIA contact.
What a tangled web.
