Will marriage soften up mean ol’ Simon Cowell? His former “American Idol” co-judge, Paula Abdul thinks so.
“I know Simon so well,” she said, “and honest to God, I think he’s at that stage in his life where he’s a grown-up Simon now, making him a great and loving husband. But he still has that little bad boy in him.”
Mr. Cowell, 50, and his gorgeous fiancée, Mezhgan Hussainy, have been dating for nearly a year and met several years ago on “Idol,” where she’s a makeup artist.
No one was more stunned (or maybe crestfallen) by Simon’s decision to settle down than Paula. “It took me about 12 days to take my jaw off the ground and put it back up,” she said. “But Mezhgan is a lovely girl and I’ve known her for a long time. They make a great couple, and I’m happy for them.”
So in their private moments, does Simon rave to Paula about Mezhgan?
“That would be an alter ego of Simon to gush about her. That is not part of his DNA,” Paula said. “However, I know that he’s in a happy place, so that makes me happy. He would never gush about anyone unless it was about himself, and that’s why we love Simon.”
Still, some are doubting that the Simon-Mezhgan nuptials will ever take place. Some friends say there is still no date set for the big day.
“He’s still getting used to living with Mezhgan, let alone her being his wife,” a close source told the Sunday Mirror. “Bear in mind, this is a man who’s used to doing his own thing. Simon’s a man’s man. He likes to dance to his own tune and isn’t used to making compromises, which marriage requires. Mezhgan’s a great girl. But even those closest to Simon aren’t expecting to hear wedding bells any time soon.”
Which may be the best thing that ever happened to Mezhgan.
