Coming only five months after the sudden passing of his lovely 32-year-old wife, movie actress Brittany Murphy, Simon Monjack’s death this week stunned the Hollywood community. Mr. Monjack, 39, was found dead last Sunday night in the couple’s home in Hollywood, according to the L.A. County Coroner’s office.
He was pronounced dead after the fire department was called to the residence for a medical emergency, say authorities. At press time, police said the preliminary cause of death was natural causes, but an investigation is underway.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Brittany’s mother, Sharon, found Mr. Monjack, an English writer, producer and director, unresponsive and called 911.
Last January, his mother, Linda Monjack, told People that Mr. Monjack was “unwell, and the doctors are carrying out tests. On whether he has a heart problem it is not really for me to say, you must ask him, but yes, there have been health problems in the past. I believe it’s common knowledge, and it’s been in the press that he had a slight heart attack a week from Brittany’s death coming back from Puerto Rico.”
Brittany died last December of pneumonia, an iron deficiency and multiple drug intoxication. She and Mr. Monjack married in May 2007 (in a Jewish ceremony) and did not have children.
In an interview with People last January, Mr. Monjack said, “I took very good care of my wife. ... She was on an antibiotic and she was taking cough medicine and doing all the right things.”
