Only six months after her death from pneumonia, anemia and multiple-drug intake at age 32, actress Brittany Murphy is already being cast as a fallen angel in the public’s mind.
But her husband, British film producer Simon Monjack, is receiving a less positive posthumous image makeover.
Allegations are surfacing that Monjack, who died of pneumonia and anemia in May at age 39, drained his late wife’s cash reserves by 80 percent. These accusations are coming from Murphy’s former business manager, Jeffrey Morgenroth.
“There were huge amounts of money in [Murphy’s] pension plan and bank account, and all of that’s gone,” Morgenroth told People. “I would see it on the statements. There was money being withdrawn by Simon, hundreds of thousands.”
Now, Murphy’s 57-year-old mother, Sharon Murphy, faces financial instability, said Morgenroth. According Jeannette Bycott, an assistant to Morgenroth, Monjack’s mother, Linda Monjack, ordered Sharon Murphy to leave the couple’s Beverly Hills mansion.
”Linda started acting like everything belongs to her,” said Bycott. “Before Sharon could say anything, Linda stated the house was now hers.”
Ms. Monjack denied any wrongdoing and told People from her home in Great Britain, “If there is money missing, I have no idea where it is. … [Simon] didn’t get much, maybe a few hundred dollars, and he paid off his debts with it. He was spending his time crying his eyes out most of the time. He was in a terrible state.”
In addition, Morgenroth told People that Mr. Monjack kept Brittany Murphy on a tight leash. One time, he recalled as an example, he needed the actress to sign a tax form.
“I went down to the deadline and delivered it personally, and I couldn’t even see Brittany,” he said. “Simon took [the form] from me. The excuse was her hair was messed up. I was at the front door and Brittany [called down] and said, ‘Hi Jeff, sorry I couldn’t see you, bye.’ It sounded fishy and weird.”
Meanwhile, Sharon Murphy is in denial can’t deal with all of the allegations against Monjack, Morgenroth said.
”She’ll say, ‘I can’t talk about that now,’” he said. “I’m trying to get her to understand that the bank account has this amount. She was looking at the pension statement and I said, ‘Look. There are almost no zeros there.’ She needs guidance on how to deal with things.”
At the same time, Sharon Murphy has dismissed rumors that her daughter and son-in-law were killed by a black toxic mould in the couple’s Hollywood home (where Sharon now lives).
“I have never been personally asked by the coroner or anyone from the Health Department to come and inspect my home for mould,” she told People. “In the last eight months, I have been through the most unimaginable events, which no one could ever fathom. I have and will continue to be very cooperative and fully comply with any such request. … It’s absurd that this kind of misinformation is being reported by the media.”
All we can say is, what a mess!
