Without a doubt, William Shatner is one of the great geniuses of our times. Proof? He’s made a post-“Star Trek,” post- “T.J. Hooker,” post-“Boston Legal” career out of being, well, William Shatner.
Now, a half-century after making his Broadway debut in “A Shot In The Dark,” the Shat is appearing in a one-man show on the Great White Way titled, “Shatner’s World: We Just Live In It.” The show will also be touring in 15 cities over the next couple of months.
Throughout the show, Shatner, 80, looks back on episodes of his grand and quirky life, such as sneaking into Montreal’s seediest burlesque houses as a kid, becoming an actor and ultimately Captain James Tiberius Kirk, to being one of today’s most sought-after has-beens and celebrity pitchmen.
He also recalls in the show the time when his dad Joseph voiced his disapproval of Shatner going into acting, preferring that young Bill take over the family clothing biz. “There are times in my life when I wish I could go back to that comfort,” Shatner admits.
So far, the show has gotten mixed reviews, although one critic can’t say enough good things about it – Bill Shatner.
