Zelda Rubinstein, the actress best known for her role as the vertically-challenged psychic in the film “Poltergeist,” died in L.A. recently at age 76 after suffering a heart attack.
Rubinstein made a splash as the eccentric medium Tangina Barrons in the first “Poltergeist” flick and reprised the role in two sequels. She also appeared in “Southland Tales,” “Sixteen Candles” and “Picket Fences,” as well as in a high-profile AIDS public awareness campaign in the ‘80s.
A Pittsburgh native, Rubinstein didn’t appear in a movie until 1982, nearly at the age of 50, when she portrayed a woman playing a Munchkin in Oz-themed “Under The Rainbow.”
