Appalling
No, shame on you. It adversely affects the entire fabric of Jewry. We are not individuals entitled to do as we please. The Torah tells us what to do, and it forbids homosexuality. Love has nothing to do with it. Better the couple should be miserable than to violate the law.

How does a commitment ceremony between two adults who love one another adversely affect you? Your nasty letter just demonstrates your ignorance. I’m sorry The Jewish Times gave you a forum for your small-minded rant.
Posted by Margery Braver on 11/05/09 at 05:22 PMHas nothing to do with a cup of tea. It has to do with what is right. As a rabbi, he knew better than to allow, even officiate at such a ceremony. It’s no great achievement to go against the Torah in the name of liberalism and live & let live. I don’t care about the philosophy of the shul or the branch of Judaism. But a flagrant violation by a leader is just plain wrong. Not to say he didn’t do good things for many people. But this was just totally absurd. He had a history of bucking the trends. That’s his legacy.

Beth El’s not my Judaic cup of tea either; but to brand it as the “wrong path” just because it’s not your personal Judaic cup of tea is rather presumptuous. Rabbi Loeb was a spiritual Godsend to certain friends of mine as they were going through rough times. Just because a shul offers a different stream of Judaism than one’s own doesn’t make it a “wrong path” for those who choose to swim up that stream.
