President Obama is not Jimmy Carter. There is nothing unreasonable about requesting a freeze on the construction of settlements in the West Bank. A freeze by itself will not lead to the physical destruction of Israel. Furthermore, Mahmoud Abbas, unlike Yasser Arafat before him, has challenged Hamas, and has publicly ruled out using violence against Israel. During last year’s war in Gaza, Abbas prevented Hamas supporters from staging violent protests against Israeli soldiers.

For those of us who have grown up during and after the Holocaust, and Israel’s four major wars (1948,1956,1967,1973), there is a new generation of Israelis and Palestinians who are tired of constant war, and are working toward efforts for peace.

Regarding Iran, after George W. Bush poured gasoline on a fire by calling Iran part of an “Axis of Evil”, it was important for the United States to take away excuses for vitriolic rhetoric from Iranian president Ahmedinajad. Iran’s recent rejection of a proposal to ship uranium to an outside country for processing shows their true colors. This builds a better case for economic sanctions, which the Obama Administration now supports.

For all that President Obama said during the campaign, he is doing everything possible to hurt the Jewish State.  I have hopes that this is done because he is nave.  If not, he is the worst enemy of Israel and the Jewish People.  One of his problems is that he is being advised by a cadre of self hating Jews.
