Courts attempt to weed out the emotion and get down to facts and at the end of the day hopefully we end up with a resolved case according to facts with respect to law.
Jurors do have ears and eyes; they hear and see lots of things during the course of their
lives that would seem to influence their thinking.
That said, people have their own minds and make their own decisions. Jurors are sworn to make a decision according to evidence presented to them in the court of law.
The juror who was removed had heard a person who happened to be her husband, tell of his views pertaining to iranian people. Obviously he would not have made a good juror, but his wife with her own opinions and having been sworn to make a decision according to the evidence before her, made
her own decision without any force from her husband, and the rest of the jury made their own decisions according to the evidence presented in the court room and during the deliveration they were unaware of any of the sentiments that juor 8’s husband had about Iranian people.
As I understand it; it was after the votes were handed in that juror number 8 confided in one of the jurors about what her husband had said.
