I believe this Telegraph article is a hoax. The name does not mean a tallis maker, and the name is not particularly Jewish —according to Persian Jewish scholars.

I must say that I was quite amazed to learn that Ahmadinejad’s family of origin is Jewish.  Therefore halachically, so is he. I fear that he will follow in the footsteps of some of the greatest and most virulent of “Jewish Anti-Semites” such as the monstrous Jewish butcher of the Spanish Inquisition. Torquemanda, after converting to Christianity and entering the priesthood, became so zealous in his attempt to distance himself from his co-religionists that he “outperformed” his masters in persecution and hatred of Jews. I can only pray that Ahmadinejad will have an awakening of conscience and deviate from this bloody path to infamy.
