There is little that disturbs me more than someone assigning Jewish/Torah values, making someone into a Tzaddik, whose lifestyle clearly contradicts those values.
Ted Kennedy was an excellent politician, give him credit for that, but Torah values? What world are we living in. Sure Ted Kennedy got along with Senators of both parties. The Senate is one giant club, where they bash each other one moment and go out for drinks the next.
Justice? Ted Kennedy should have spent 15-20 years in jail, not on the Senate floor. When he was thinking of running for president, Soviet archives showed that he contacted them to undermine the sitting President and this Country, for his own political benefit. When Pres. Bush was first elected, he worked with Ted Kennedy, virtually allowing Kennedy to write the education bill. Once it passed, he attacked the President over it.
He was a politician, give him credit for pursing his beliefs, but don’t assign Torah values to an individual whose beliefs and actions shared little in common with Torah ideals.
Out of respect for the dead, I won’t go through other lifestyle activities of his. Give him credit for what is deserved, don’t make a false saint out of him.
