Offensive Font

October 9, 2009

I was put off and offended by the insensitive selection of one of the fonts from the Germanic family of typefaces for the cover of the Sept. 25 BALTIMORE JEWISH TIMES about the meaning of the 10 Commandments. There are, literally, thousands of fonts available that would be more appropriate. I am still very upset at what was done to the Jewish People by the Germans. I am not ready, yet, to forgive or forget. A large part of my family was destroyed by the Nazi regime.

I remember, as a young child, seeing the German papers in Waldenburgh, Poland, typed entirely in these fonts. I realize that these fonts are used in papers like New York Times, Washington Times and others, but those are not primarily intended for the Jewish reader.
