P.A. Stew
September 11, 2009Regarding Dr. Robert O. Freedman’s Sept. 4 Op-Ed “Why A Jewish State?” I have always been troubled by the chutzpah of Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian Authority, much less Hamas, as they act as if they have been the victors in their battle to destroy the State of Israel instead of consistent losers, despite their aggression.
To listen to the talk of peace, as proposed by the Palestinian Authority, Israel must first evacuate all lands claimed by the P.A., release all Arab prisoners, including those involved in massacres of Israeli citizens, and then allow the dubious claim that any Arab who desires can enter Israel as citizens of the Jewish state.
With demands such as these prior to negotiations, so outrageous and unrealistic, there should only be one response from Israel, namely let the P.A. stew in its own juice. Until pragmatism overcomes bloated dreams for the P.A. and its associated members, there is no need for negotiations and Israelis should continue to live and build wherever they wish in their historical, religious and current homeland.
