Real Costs
September 18, 2009In the September 11 article “Healthy Debate,” Barbara Pash stated that President Obama’s health plan “would reportedly cost about $1 trillion over a 10-year period.”
That got me wondering how that compared to what we’ve spent on the war in Iraq. In August of 2007 the Congressional Budget Office stated that we had already spent $1 trillion on the Iraq war. As of mid-July of this year, the National Priorities Project said that we’d spent $915.1 billion on the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Do we care about the health of this nation’s citizens as much as we do about wars whose purpose and chance of positive change are highly questionable?
