For my bar mitzvah project, I chose to align my efforts with Yad Sarah, the largest Israeli national volunteer organization aiding disabled, elderly and housebound people. My family’s recent two-week trip touring Israel included an extensive tour of Yad Sarah’s very impressive main location in Jerusalem. Part of our time there was spent actually being part of their huge volunteer staff. Also, I hand-delivered donations collected from friends and family as part of my bar mitzvah project, totaling over $800. The entire experience there made me feel really good inside knowing that my mitzvah of tikun olam was helping those less fortunate than me. I left Yad Sarah with a better appreciation of how fortunate I am and how very important it is to offer my services to help those in need.
