For my mitzvah project, I have donated a portion of my bar mitzvah money to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America and the Johns Hopkins Pediatric Infusion Speciality Suite. I also plan on running in a 5K race to raise money for Crohn’s.

My Torah portion, Beshallach, tells of the Israelites leaving Egypt and crossing the Red Sea. Then Miriam leads the women in song. We chose this Shabbat because of Miriam’s prominence in the portion. My whole family was involved in the service. I read four Torah portions and chanted the Haftorah, my aunt read Torah for the first time and my brother chanted the “song of the sea.” My mother gave the sermon. The entire congregation was so supportive of me.
