Comments (0)Jewish and historical groups in Poland have called for a day to be devoted to Poles who helped Jews during the Holocaust.
The Association of the Children of the Holocaust, the Jan Karski Association and the Museum of the History of Polish Jews have appealed to Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski to set aside the tribute day for Poles who aided Jews during the World War II German occupation, Polish Radio reported.
The organizations suggested Sept. 27, the day the Provisional Committee of Aid to Jews was established at the initiative of the Polish underground state. The committee was renamed the Zegota Council of Aid to Jews and brought together a diverse group of Polish activists from across the political spectrum.
Poland has the world’s highest number of individuals who have received the designation of Righteous Among the Nations at 6,266.
