Rabbi David Finkelstein, Rabbi Asher Stein, Rabbi Tzvi Tuchman and dozens of other Camp Shoresh staff and volunteers were their typical crazed selves in the evening hours of Saturday, Jan. 21 – which means they were energized, joking, running around and getting a million tasks done at once. After all, it was show time – time, that is, for Camp Shoresh’s Night of Magic, Mystery & Illusion, which benefitted the Frederick camp that serves the region.
So it was that hundreds of Shoresh supporters turned out to be dazzled and dazed by magician and illusionist Joe Holiday, who liberally tapped adults and campers from the audience. They also enjoyed the crafty work of magician Chad Juros, whose nifty tricks included having an audience member pull a seemingly endless piece of toilet paper from his mouth.
Prior to the show, guests also bid on a variety of enticing items in a silent auction, ranging from packages for the Orioles (including hitting lessons with O’s Hall of Famer Al Bumbry), to an electronics package with items such as iPads and iPods, to a potpourri bundle of discounts on area kosher food venues.
During the evening, Lillian Weinberg accepted a special Lifetime Achievement Award in memory of her late husband, Nathan Weinberg.
