Obama Campaign Launches Local Jewish Outreach

The Barack Obama campaign is launching Jewish outreach groups in major Jewish centers across the United States. Groups have already been launched in Chicago, the hometown of the Illinois U.S. senator and presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, and Los Angeles.

The campaign launched an “Obama Jewish Community Leadership Committee” in New York at the 92nd Street Y. Speakers at the New York event included Penny Pritzker, the Chicago philanthropist and hotel family scion, and U.S. Reps. Steve Israel and Jerrold Nadler, both Democrats from New York.
At the meetings, Obama backers are briefed on rapid response to Republican attacks on the senator’s record on Israel and other Jewish issues and are encouraged to recruit others in the Jewish community to back the campaign.

The campaign plans to set up similar groups in Pennsylvania, Florida, Ohio and Michigan.
