1. Place water, salt, egg, margarine, flour and sugar (in that order) in a bread machine. Make a crater in the flour and sugar and pour the yeast in the crater, making sure not to tough the liquid. Put the machine on the “dough” cycle.
2. Spray Pam on a cookie sheet and on your hands. Take the dough out and divide it into three parts, making three strips.
3. Start in the middle and braid. When you get to the end, spin the dough around and continue to braid, this time braiding underneath. Tuck ends under.
4. Cover with a clean towel and let rise for 45 minutes.
5. Preheat oven to 350-degrees.
6. After rising, brush the top with the beaten egg and sprinkle poppy seeds on top.
7. Bake for 20 minutes.
